Our Unique School Model

Our One Room Schoolhouse. Our Freedom Academy schoolhouse

Morning Academics

Given the academic freedom of a private one-room schoolhouse, we are able to base all instruction on ability level rather than the age of our students. Removing the barrier of grade levels found in traditional schools, our fluid approach to learning provides tailored academics for student’s individual needs. This model truly allows students to excel without the limitations of grade levels being completed in a fixed timeline of 1 academic year.

Lunchtime

At the heart of our one-room schoolhouse is a large shared dining table where children gather to enjoy lunch together, practice manners, engage in meaningful conversation, and take part in cleaning up– building community through simple daily rhythms.

Two children garden at a wooden raised planter; one shovels soil while the other waters plants.

Afternoon Homesteading

After lunch, our students’ education comes to life as they apply their academics and develop a long list of useful life skills. Daily activities and responsibilities open the opportunity for children to flourish while caring for a garden (greenhouse in the colder months), exploring, preserving food, building, and hopefully, learning to care for animals in the future. Giving the children the opportunity to develop useful life skills in a loving, fun, and nurturing environment allows their childhood to be both fulfilling and valuable.

Beyond the importance of teaching responsibility and life skills is the value of play in childhood. Play has been proven time and time again to be one of the most powerful avenues for growth and development for young children. We believe in open ended play daily for all children, as this is where children use their imagination, develop strong bonds among one another and create memories that are never forgotten.
